Areas of Focus

Theft

Have you been arrested for a property crime in Hamilton or the Niagara Region? From simple shoplifting charges to burglary and robbery, there are serious potential consequences for a conviction. I am Pat Murray and I protect the rights of individuals accused of property crimes in the Province of Ontario.

White Collar Crimes

I have successfully defended those accused of theft or white-collar crimes since 1980.

My clients include those accused of:

  • Theft-Related Crimes
    • Shoplifting / Retail theft
    • Petty theft
    • Identity theft
    • Mail theft
    • Credit card fraud
    • Medicare / Medicaid fraud
    • Forgery
    • Counterfeiting
    • Bad Checks
    • Receipt of stolen property
  • White Collar Crimes
    • Embezzlement
    • Employee Theft
    • Fraud

Many charged with a theft-related or white-collar crime, such as embezzlement or fraud, are first time offenders, never before having been accused of or arrested for a crime of any kind. I understand how frightening and confusing this experience can be. As your experienced attorney and advocate I will actively and aggressively defend you against government overreaching, police misconduct, and overzealous Crown Attorneys.

Violent Crimes

A conviction to a violent crime has serious immediate and long-term consequences. You need to do whatever you can to protect your future. If you have been charged with any type of violent crime, you can be sure that the charges are serious and the potential consequences are life-altering. Protecting the rights of the accused in San Francisco area courts since 1980, I know how to prepare your case for trial and explore all reasonable opportunities for plea agreements. Conducting a thorough investigation into your case, I will work to lower the charges and minimize the consequences if you have been charged with the following:

Assualt

Domestic Violence

Weapons Charges

Sexual Assault

While I have a comprehensive criminal defense practice, I do not handle homicide cases. If you have been charged with a homicide, I can refer you to an attorney prepared to handle your case.

Juvenile Offences

I defend minors charged with any type of criminal offense. Typical juvenile cases I handle involve the following:

  • Juvenile delinquency
  • Underage DUI
  • Shoplifting
  • Theft
  • Assault
  • Weapons charges
  • Other juvenile crimes
  • Record expungements
  • Expulsions

Juveniles charged with committing crimes are not entitled to certain things that adults are. In Juvenile Court, rather than a jury, a judge decides the case and instead of a bail hearing, there is a detention hearing. A detention hearing is held to determine whether the minor should be held in custody or release to their parents and if they should become a ward of the court. An individual may become a ward of the court, but still be released to their parents.

Drunk Driving

A drunk driving charge can happen to anyone. If you have been arrested on DUI charges, you want to do everything you can to protect your rights and keep your license. Whether you are a first time offender or you have a prior conviction, I will protect your rights in court and handle all related matters with theDepartment of Motor Vehicles.
